I enjoyed reading and reviewing “The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash.” When I saw “Jimmy’s Boa Bounces Back” at the library, I was excited to read this sequel.
It’s not as cute as the original, I’m afraid. But it’s still a fun story.
On the first page, Meggie announces to Jimmy that she has just seen his boa at her mother’s garden club meeting. Apparently her mother needed something to wear that would add just the right touch to her suit, and decided that the boa was just the ticket. Her friends were quite taken with her fashion statement. The boa was behaving himself really quite admirably until Mrs. Rosebud’s wig flew off after being snagged on another lady’s purse. In the midst of all this, Miss Peachtree’s poodle sneezed and sprayed punch all over everyone, made easier by the fact that the poodle was sitting in the punch bowl at the time.
How did the poodle get in the punch, you ask?
Well, Miss Ivy fainted, and hit Miss Peachtree, who then dropped her poodle into the punch bowl. And the cause of the fainting? The boa decided to wake up and eat one of the exotic plants that was on display. That would cause quite a stir, wouldn’t it?
But it all worked out for the best. The boa ate the punchbowl, thereby rescuing the poodle. The poodle and the boa are now best friends for life. In fact, the boa followed the poodle home, to Miss Peachtree’s lovely home. But Miss Peachtree didn’t see the boa slither into her upstairs window.
The oddest thing of all is that Meggie’s mother isn’t a member of the garden club anymore. I can’t imagine how that happened!
The best part of this book for me was the illustrations, especially those of the boa. He has got the cutest look on his face on every single page (that is, if a boa is capable of actually looking cute.) You will find something to laugh about on every single page.
