The reason behind Jennifer Aniston’s split from John Mayer can be summed up in one word: Twitter.
According to Aniston’s pals, the sexy former “Friends” star dumped her Grammy-winning boyfriend because he couldn’t stop tweeting.
Sources close to the actress tell British tabloids that Mayer ignored Aniston’s phone calls and emails while she was on the road promoting her new movie. Interestingly, though, he had enough time to update his Twitter page up to 10 times a day.
One pal dished: “Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn’t have time for her and yet his page was filled with updates! Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he’d update with some stupid line. She was like, ‘He has time for all this Twittering, but he can’t send me a text, an email, make a call?’”
The same pal reveals that Mayer didn’t deny he was avoiding Aniston, so when she dumped him, he didn’t fight it. Rather, sources say Mayer simply apologized for things not working out.
I guess he just wasn’t that into her.
But, here’s the kicker to this story. Yesterday E! News ran an interview with Mayer in which he denied having a Twitter obsession. In fact, the singer actually had harsh words for the social messaging phenomenon:
“It’s inherently silly and it’s inherently dumb,” the singer told E! “If you really think that Twitter is the pathway to spiritual enlightenment, well…It’s one step away from sending pictures of your poop.”
So why then is Mayer considered a Twitter maniac?
“I’ve always communicated at a high level as best I can whether it’s Twitter, Napster or message boards or wherever,” Mayer said. “I don’t have a devotion to Twitter. I didn’t sell out to Twitter. You do Twitter until everybody gets off of Twitter and it’s something else you go and try out.”
Why do I get the feeling Mayer will remain single for a long, long time?
