In anticipation of the opening of National Treasure: Book of Secrets on December 21st of this year, Walt Disney Pictures is sponsoring the world’s biggest treasure hunt and it starts today!
National Treasure: Book of Secrets is the long awaited sequel to 2004’s National Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage. Though purely fiction, National Treasure was a very entertaining (and educational) Indiana Jones style adventure that takes place right here in the U.S.A. (You can read the Families.com movie review of National Treasure here).
Although not meant for very young children, I think National Treasure’s real appeal was in how well it managed to integrate American history with action and adventure. Yes, bullets were flying, cars were chasing, staircases fell out from under people’s feet and crawling through cobweb littered tunnels was a necessity but the lessons in American History that this movie offered made it particularly unique. I, for one, am looking forward to the sequel!
National Treasure: Book of Secrets is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Jon Turteltaub. Nicolas Cage has returned to reprise his role as Benjamin Gates. Also starring in the sequel are Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, Ed Harris, Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha, Bruce Greenwood and Helen Mirren.
The premise of this story is that Ben Gates’ great-great grandfather is implicated as a key conspirator in the murder of Abraham Lincoln. Being the good guy that Ben is, he sets out to clear his ancestor’s name and that is when the historical clues and the adventures begin. Just as in the first National Treasure, we expect to learn some more of history’s greatest secrets!
There is no purchase necessary to participate in the treasure hunt but you do stand to win some amazing prizes. The grand prize is a Mercedes-Benz C350. Talk about a treasure! Just go to www.nationaltreasure.com and get started right now!
Be sure to come back and let us know how your treasure hunt goes!
