“Josh and the Big Wall” is the movie that started it all for the Pinkston family. That’s right; it’s the movie my mom brought home from Virginia, babbling about produce all the way. Once I saw it, I started babbling about produce too. You might say, we now speak celery.
This VeggieTales video tells us the story of Joshua (Larry the Cucumber) the man who was chosen to be prophet upon the death of Moses. Moses had led the children of Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness, but he died before they actually entered the Promised Land. It was Joshua who had that privilege, but first he had to find a way around a very large obstacle: Jericho.
Jericho was a big city that stood between where the Israelites were and where they needed to be. God had promised the land to the Israelites and told them they should go in and possess it, but when they came to Jericho, and saw the big wall and the armaments, they were afraid and wanted to flee. In this version, the French peas who live in Jericho throw Slushies at them every time they come near, and Pa Grape suggests that they go back and see the pyramids.
An angel of the Lord comes to see Joshua and tells him how the Israelites can defeat the city of Jericho. Taking up the Ark of the Covenant, they should march around the city once a day for six days. On the seventh day, they should march around seven times and blow their horns as loudly as they can. Joshua believes the angel, but when he tells the Israelites what they are to do, he is met with disbelief.
Finally, they do as he asks, and on the last day, the promise is kept and the walls do come down. This movie is a great lesson in obedience and how doing the Lord’s will, even if it doesn’t make sense, is always the best thing.
The “Silly Song with Larry” contained on this video is by far, hands down, my favorite. It’s called “The Song of the Cebu,” and is the story of a boy and his three cebu. One of them is sad, one of them is sick, and the third is mute. They all go for a ride in a canoe. And you’ll just have to get the video and see for yourself what happens to them, but trust me, it will be well worth your time.
