With another national holiday just around the corner, it’s time again to look at the special events going on at the Disney Parks. Last year I highlighted what went down in Orlando for July 4. I thought I would switch things up this year and focus on the events in Anaheim.
The official Disney parks blog has an overview of what to expect at Disneyland on the 4th, which links to the Disneyland Daily Events calendar for the specifics. One thing you should definitely anticipate: fireworks. But then you probably guessed that already.
Because July 4 is a Monday this year, all over the country the whole weekend will likely be dedicated to partying for America’s birthday. Disneyland is no exception. From July 1-4 Disneyland will feature America-themed “nighttime spectaculars.” If you’re a fan of fireworks and are lucky enough to be near Anaheim for the Fourth, you won’t want to miss these.
The first is of course a colossal (and this is by Disney standards, so you know it’s going to be huge) fireworks display. “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky” will appear in the air above Disneyland at 9:30 pm every night of the weekend and on the Fourth.
Other nighttime lights displays around the park are also getting patriotic for the holiday. The “World of Color” will keep running all original shows, but they will each be preceded by a special Independence Day-themed pre-show.
Fantasmic will also join the fun. Each night over in Frontierland, Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey puts on a special demonstration for his pals. He shoots sparklers into the night and casts giant scenes from “Fantasia” upon the surrounding water.
Perhaps this is just a timely coincidence, but the current theme for Fantasmic is “Rivers of America.” If you’re really revved up for America-themed shows this coming weekend, Fantasmic would make a great stop. It runs each night at 9:00, 10:30, and 11:30 pm.
If you want a hipper, more grown-up party for the Fourth, head over to Disneyland’s Downtown Disney section on July 3. That evening the theme at the 21+ House of Blues is “Limelight: Red White and House of Blues.” This is just a guess, but given the timing it sounds like yet another patriotic-themed party to join.
Disneyland is even offering a somewhat more serious Independence Day tribute for the Fourth weekend. Each day in the Disneyland Town Square at 5:10 there will be a Flag Retreat Ceremony. Disneyland’s Color Guard and orchestra will help retire the American flag for the evening in pomp and circumstance befitting the holiday.
As usual, Disneyland is the place to be for a special holiday if you really want to party.
