June 6, 2006 is quickly approaching and many people are freaking out about it. There are prophets who believe this day is ominous. After all, it will be 06/06/06 and “666” is the mark of the antichrist.
People have always been curious about numbers and what affect they might have on our lives. How many of us dread it when we see a Friday the 13th coming up on the calendar? Some hospitals and hotels do not have 13th floors but instead skip from the 12th to the 14th. Now in my mind, that still technically makes the “14th” floor the 13th, but it seems to make some people feel better.
For whatever reason, we look for hidden meanings in numbers. Do you remember some of the odd numerology coincidences mentioned after September 11, 2001? For months, people were fixated with finding references to the number 11 in the tragedy. People said the terrorist choose September 11th because the twin towers looked like a big 11? Did anyone mention to you that New York was the 11th state admitted into the Union? My favorite was when someone realized that George W. Bush, New York City, Air Force One, Afghanistan, and the Pentagon all had eleven letters each. They failed to notice “That’s so dumb” also contains eleven letters.
Conspiracy theorist love numbers, but numerology has been around for years. Pythagoras, the famous Greek mathematician, looked to numbers to help explain the universe. Each day people buy lottery tickets based on the hopes of winning by choosing their “lucky” numbers. I’ve always heard that famous people die in “threes,” meaning that three famous people will die in a row. You might say that numbers define many of our lives as many people work from 8 am and 5 pm.
Regardless of what happens on 6/6/06, you will be able to see doomsday – at least at the theater. The remake of The Omen and the movie The Beast (which refutes the existence of Christ) are both cashing in on the hoopla by opening on June 6th, 2006.
What do you think about the impending 6/6/06?
