Yes, I know that it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, but I have to confess that I just can’t wait until then to decorate my home for Christmas. Part of the reason, at least the way I am rationalizing it is that I am so busy that I will have to do things in stages. Another part is that we are hosting Thanksgiving, so I wanted to have some holiday things up. Another part is that decorating is something that I can get done with the little kids (although my five-year-old has her definitely opinions of where things should go).
The real reason, of course, is that I am just excited about Christmas in my home.
I’ve been trying to do things subtly this week, since my husband is still determined to carve the pumpkins we got last month and harvest the seeds. “We can have roasted pumpkin seeds for Thanksgiving, can’t we?” he asks.
So far, I have been sticking to the family room. This room is going to be very family cozy in the decorating. So far, we have some teddy bears in their winter sweaters, sitting on the mantle. There are also various snowmen and snowmen families scattered about to greet us. See, it isn’t exactly Christmas, yet–just sort of winter. Never mind that the temperature outside is in the 60s.
This morning, a rustic wooden star with a snowman on it (we purchased it in Lancaster) is hanging on the inside of the front door. The outside still contains a fall plaque.
I’m tempted to take small outdoor trees down from the attic. They are pre-lit with white lights and usually are placed on the porch, on either side of our front door. The problem is that there is something in the way at the moment: hay bales, pumpkins and yellow moms. I’m tempted to put santa hats on the pumpkins.
