Sometimes it is just a little difficult to get the motivation to exercise. Faithful with walking and running in the other three seasons, getting out in the dark and the cold takes some extra resolve that isn’t always there. The warm cinnamon rolls and a cup of coffee always seem much more appealing than donning layers to head out to the park in 25 degrees.
Still, all of those Christmas cookies can wreck havoc.
With four other people in the house who either need exercise or at least an outlet for their energy, we decided to try Just Dance 3 for the Wii. I’m glad we did.
The hilarious routines had us doing everything from playing air guitar to acting like 80s cheerleaders. I never thought I would dance to Aha’s Take on Me ever again, but it was so worth it. “The Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” dance included the Running Man. That brought things back. Don’t worry, there are more modern moves, such as the twirls and steps that go with Katy Perry’s “California Gurls.”
One of our crew, who shall remain nameless, since I do have to live with him, couldn’t get over the inhibition to throw himself into the game, but the remaining four of us had no such problems, wiggling out hips, stomping like mummies or doing head bops.
We had fun and got some good exercise in, since most of the dances leave you breathless at the end, especially if you do them with enthusiasm. You won’t be learning technical street moves here, so don’t get this game if you want to head to the clubs and show off your new stuff, but you will improve your flexibility, strength and fitness without really trying. And, you’ll burn even more calories laughing while you play.
Just Dance 3 for the Wii is easy to play. There are no complicated movies with the remove or menus to set up. You basically just click and play. Difficulty levels and “sweat” levels are indicated, so you know what you are in for before you start a dance.
Just Dance 3 is best played with a group of friends or family, and is definitely a game I’ll be breaking out at our next party. You can have up to four players going at one time, but make sure that you have enough room. Some dance moves require the players to interact with each other.
Finally, the nice thing about this game, is that the lyrics are family friendly. There was once instance of an implied word that was left out and another lyric that called someone “stupid,” but overall it is pretty tame, something that you don’t necessarily see in other dance games.
