If you are like me, you enjoy watching the NBC series “Medium.” It is the hit show that details how psychic Allison DuBois helps law enforcement solve seemingly unsolvable crimes. The “Medium” fall premiere starts on NBC this Wednesday (Nov. 15) with a two-hour special, but did you know this show is based on the events of the real life Allison DuBois?
The real Allison DuBois claims to have helped solve crimes with the Texas Rangers and the Glendale, Arizona police department (although both deny the contact – perhaps for fear of ridicule for using a psychic). Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Allison received a B.A. in Political Science from Arizona State University. While attending college, she worked as an intern at the District Attorney’s office. Realizing she had psychic abilities at a young age, she had them tested at the University of Arizona over a four-year period and scored exceptionally well on accuracy and specificity. Dr. Gary Schwartz, director of The VERITAS Research Project at the university, supports her psychic claims. It was these tests that changed Allison’s life forever. Rather than pursue a career as a prosecuting attorney, Allison decided to become a professional medium/profiler.
In 2005, NBC created the show “Medium” based on Allison’s book “Don’t Kiss Them Good-Bye.” It was an immediate success and Patricia Arquette (who portrays Allison on the show) won an Emmy in 2005. Allison serves as a consultant on the show. The show does closely resemble her real life – she has three daughters and in case you were wondering, her husband really is an aerospace engineer.
In addition to helping law enforcement and working on the show, Allison has done over 1,200 personal psychic readings. She is active in the VERITAS research program and is a member of the Medium Advisory Board for the Forever Family Foundation. She has authored two books, “We Are Their Heaven” and “Don’t Kiss Them Good-Bye.”
