Kanye West’s mother, Donda West, died Saturday at the age of 58. Reports are that her death may have been caused by complications due to a cosmetic surgical procedure, but Kanye’s publicist will neither confirm nor deny the claims. She was brought into Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center by paramedics on Saturday. Even though doctors tried to revive her, she died shortly after being admitted.
Donda was a retired professor and former chair of English department. She also served as Kanye’s manager at one time and was always a big supporter of her son’s career.
A spokesperson for the coroner says that the preliminary information seems to point to her cause of death as being complications from surgery, but it wasn’t know where the surgery was performed. BBC News quoted Kanye’s publicist Patricia Green as saying that the death was due to complications from a cosmetic surgical procedure, but Green denies that claim. She told People magazine that she never confirmed the cause of death because she is receiving conflicting reports. The family has asked for privacy during this time. An autopsy of Ms. West will be performed on Tuesday.
