Another favored author of mine is named Kay Hooper. She sold her first novel in 1980. She was just 22 years old. Since then she’s written more than 60 novels. Among some of her more popular novels are the SCU books that feature Bishop and his agents of paranormal ability. There are 8 books in the series so far with the ninth due out this summer.
Hooper was born at an air force base hospital in California. She was raised and went to school in North Carolina. The oldest of three children, Hooper has a younger brother and sister. Hooper attended Isothermal Community College where she studied classes in history and literature. Focusing on writing, a longtime interest, she wrote her first novel entitled Lady Thief and sold it to Dell Publishing in 1980. That first novel was recently re-released with comments by Hooper and is available in bookstores today.
Hooper’s talent as a writer is unquestioned by the millions who read her books annually. Her characters are vivid and lifelike. You want to get to know them and you enjoy spending time with them. Hooper is also a devoted animal lover and answers emails from her fans as often as possible.
I’ve enjoyed corresponding with her once or twice and I look forward to the tidbits she’s shared about upcoming novels and characters that will be seen again. Her next entry into the Special Crimes Unit is due out in July and is titled Sleeping with Fear. If you’ve never read a Hooper book before, she’s worth the investment not only for her Special Crimes Unit books but also her romances, including the notorious Quinn and thrillers such as Haunting Rachel, Finding Laura and many, many more.
