Here are a few ideas to help keep kiddos busy so they won’t get bored!
Hide and Seek with a Twist
If your child doesn’t have anyone else to play hide and seek with and you don’t feel like crawling under the bed or crawling into other awkward hiding places, change the game up a bit. Select a few items from around the house, such as balls, toy cars and trucks, or baby doll items. Most anything will work.
When it’s your turn, hide the items while your child covers his or her eyes and counts to an agreed upon number. Hide just a few items for small children, choosing easy to find places, and hide more items for bigger kids and make it a little tougher. When your child collects each of the items and brings them to you, it’s your turn to be “it.”
Mommy’s Little Helper
This will work for mommies and daddies, and even for grandparents or babysitters. While you’re getting ready to go to the store or ready to go out and run errands, ask your child to compile lists of things you need to purchase and things you need to do.
Give your child paper and crayons and have him or her draw each item on the list. Your kids can draw foods you need from the grocery store, such as milk, bread, eggs, or fruit. Your child can also draw simple items to depict errands that need to be accomplished. If you need to stop at the post office, your child might draw a stamped envelope or a big blue mailbox.
Pay by Check
You can find pretend checks and checkbooks and dollar stores or other discount centers. You can also design simple pretend checks and print them from the computer. Have your child make a list of everything he or she can think of around the house that requires money or wish list items such as fancy cars that he or she would like to buy. Your child can then write a check for each item. It’s fun to see the amounts kids come up with and how much they think things cost.
