Scrapbooking is not a cheap hobby. However, there are ways you can reduce the price of creating elaborate memory albums.
The key to keeping costs down is to round up as many free items as possible. These days that task is becoming increasingly easy, as more and more scrapbook supply manufacturers are offering freebies online. While many die hard scrappers shy away from digital elements, it’s possible to save hundreds of dollars turning online supplies into hard copy materials that can be used in traditional albums.
For example, I am not a huge digital scrapbooking enthusiastic, but I will frequent the sites in order to download free stickers. There are dozens of websites that specialize in digital scrapbook designs, and while many of the stickers are whole-page themes, you can print elements individually if you don’t want to waste time or money.
To turn the freebies into traditional stickers, you will need a computer, a decent color printer and adhesive-backed paper. Next, visit sites such as ScrapbookScrapbook or Digital Scrapbooking, which feature hundreds of designs which can be turned into stickers. Simply peruse the sites, isolate specific borders, images, quotes or clip art and print them on sticker paper. If you don’t want to pay extra for sticky-backed paper, you can also use regular paper, and then cut-out the design and use an acid-free glue stick to apply it to your layout.
For those who choose to go the frugal route and simply glue images onto a page design, consider visiting websites that specialize in clip art. You can use your computer to adjust the size of clip art to fit your layout. In addition, certain websites, such as Clip Art ‘n Crafts feature images designed specifically for scrapbookers. The site’s massive inventory of free deigns include frames, fun graphics, whimsical letters and talk bubbles that can be used to embellish traditional scrapbook pages.
