When the temperature is hot and you would much rather sit by the pool and read a book, getting the motivation to clean and organize your home or to take care of the little things that contribute to the running of it can be tough. Who wants to pay the bills or do the laundry or wipe down the kitchen when the days seem lazy and sticky?
Here are some tips that may help you keep your home in the summer.
Simplify
Summer should be all about being easy and taking a break. Simplify things in your home and your life. Save the elaborate projects for the other seasons, and aim to just keep things as simple as possible. Consider packing away heavy decorations that need to be dusted, have a night or two where dinner is served on paper plates, and eliminate extra commitments.
Work During the Cool Moments of the Day
If you are a morning person, get up a little earlier to get those chores and tasks done. If you are a night person complete your list then. The cooler parts of the day will be more comfortable and probably more quiet. Longer days with more natural light make this an ideal plan.
Make a List to Stay Motivated
I find that if I make a list and have some accountability for it, I tend to work hard to get as many things done as possible. Sharing my list online in a forum or Facebook gives me the motivation to make sure that it is worth sharing. This is one trick I have up my sleeve for my least motivated days.
Use the Reward System
You can also use the reward system with or without a list. Build in a bunch of pleasant summer-related rewards for completing tasks. Some examples of rewards include: reading a chapter or two in a good book, taking a dip in the pool, going shopping in an air conditioned store, having an ice cream cone, etc.
