The concept of an eternal family is one of the most important and unique facets of our faith. Believing that we can be a family unit together into the eternities changes the way that you look at your family, and the way that you treat each other. It also brings a lot more focus to the importance of the family.
In church each of the auxiliaries exist to support the family and to help it be strong. They are not designed to replace the family. It is each family’s responsibility to teach the gospel in the home, and to show love and support to each family member.
As a parent it can be difficult to find the energy you need to properly meet all of the spiritual and temporal needs of your family. When this happens it is important to turn to the Lord for help. Additionally you may need to turn to others to help you as well.
On difficult days it is good to take time to step back and realize the blessings that your family has been given. It is also important to remember the blessing of having a family and children. At times you may take this for granted. The gift of children is truly a special one, and it can be difficult to remember when you are cleaning up after a sick child or being called names by your teenager.
Finally it may help to take a break. Go on a mini vacation alone, or with your spouse. This time without the children can help rejuvenate you and strengthen your marriage. It can also help you to be a better parent, because you have had the opportunity to step back from the situation and to see it from a new light. This can help you to keep the eternal perspective.
