Keeping Your Baby Warm

With the weather getting colder and colder, it is time to bundle up those babies. There are so many adorable options these days. Babies in snow suits are always adorable, but there are other ways to keep your little one toasty.

The traditional snow suit. The old fashioned way to keep your baby warm is to bundle her up in a plush snow suit, which usually has a hood attached. The pros: you’re pretty much guaranteed that there will be no drafts chilling your cute little bug. Cons: your baby will not be able to move much. Unless he or she is walking, she will be rendered immobile. (On second though, that could be a pro as well.)

The car seat cover. I love the fuzzy car seat covers that zip up over your baby with a little whole for her face. Pros: These are very warm and make packing up baby quick and easy. They also come in tons of colors. You don’t have to worry about getting those tiny hands into bulky mittens. Cons: You have to find another option if you will be carrying your baby or putting her in a separate stroller. Some babies do not like these.

Separates pieces. You should always buy your baby a separate coat, mittens, hat, snow pants and boots. Pros: You can customize how much coverage your baby needs. You may opt to skip the snow pants, for example. As your baby grows, the separate pieces give you a little more room. Cons: It may take a little longer to bundle her up. Also, separate pieces mean possible drafts when you are lifting your baby up or when she is tumbling around in the snow. Layer clothing underneath and this should not be a problem. One quick tip: go for the zippered boots rather than laces for less fuss.
