Keeping Your Clutter Resolutions

This year is one of your resolutions related to your home? I know that mine is. I seem to constantly be in a war with clutter. One of my resolutions is to get more organized and establish systems in order to keep the clutter at bay.

Recently I was in someone’s home. It was well put together and looked spotless. As we sat down to talk, my friend admitted that she was far behind in her housework and hadn’t done any cleaning in a week! I couldn’t believe it. She pointed out a cobweb on the ceiling as proof. So why did the house look so good? The organizational points she had put into place were working for her on a daily basis.

When you are making a clutter resolution, it is good to have some concrete goals in mind. For example, what are you trying to accomplish? Do you want to be super organized throughout your house or just make sure that you clean out the garage every six months? Knowing what the goal is will help make it easier to achieve.

Next, why do you want to have a clutter resolution? Keeping your reason in mind will also help you to keep it. Being able to have friends drop by without panicking could be a reason. Being able to find things could be another. Or, how about reclaiming a currently unused space?

Once you have your clutter resolutions, you need to figure out how you are going to accomplish them. Do you need to have a special time of day every day to work on your goals? Do you need to bring in outside help to reach your goals? How will your short term and long term goals work together.

Next, build in some mini rewards for your clutter resolution. One mini goal might be gathering enough clutter to have a yard sale and being able to use the money for a special treat.

Do you have any clutter resolutions?
