Keeping Your Space Clean

It is important to keep your countertop clean, even when there are a plethora of items that you must use in your kitchen. Indeed, many modern kitchens seem to never have enough countertop space. Whatever space allotments you have must further be divided between the many appliances that sometimes you feel you do not really even need.

People now must find space for their coffee pots, blenders, juice makers, hot chocolate makers, electric mixers, toasters, toasted ovens, grillers and a multitude of other must-have cooking accessories. There is no wonder so many people eat out – tackling meal preparation in a kitchen is tough when you have to maneuver around your appliance obstacle course.

However, it is a known fact that some people have every appliance under the sun and still manage to find space for the cutting board. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your kitchen space, even if you feel like you are being overwhelmed by the newest and greatest products ever invented.

First, downsize. While it might be nice to have a toaster and a toaster oven, the fact of the matter is that you only really need a toaster oven. The oven, while larger than a toaster, is more versatile. In addition to toasting your bread, it can create grilled cheese sandwiches and can nicely crisp any food you desire.

Next. Find a smaller mixer than the countertop brand. Countertop mixers are great if you use them regularly, but most people use them so infrequently that they are hardly worth their space. Plus, you constantly have to clean them because they pick up every piece of dirt and grease in your kitchen. Most people can get by with having an easy-to-store hand-held mixer for just about every job they need to do.

Reconsider the value of the blender and the juicer. While it is popular to have every slurpy-making gadget available, a blender can really function as a juicer and visa-versa. Consider selling off one of your gadgets to get some extra money that you can invest in some nice accessories (other than appliances). Once you have narrowed down your selection, consider stowing the blender or juicer in a cabinet. Most people only use this appliance on an infrequent basis, unless you are in the middle of an all-juice or protein shake diet.

Unless you use your griller on a very frequent basis, chances are very high that you can stow it in another part of your house, such as a cabinet or pantry. By storing your griller elsewhere, you will free up limitless counter space.

Some people have the ware-withal to even redo a portion of their kitchen counter to be loaded with a pull-down door. This design is a twist on the old-fashioned bread keeper in that it is a convenient place to store all of your appliances without having to stare at them on a continual basis. Simple slide the coffee maker, griller and toast over behind the pull down door and your appliances will be out of site.
