Kelsey Grammer Suffers a Heart Attack

… at a beach about 90 minutes from my parent’s home!

He’s no George Clooney, but whenever I see a smiling Kelsey Grammer I always think to myself that he looks quite well preserved. So imagine my surprise when I learned that the former “Cheers” star suffered what doctors are calling “a mild heart attack” Saturday morning.

Reports say Grammer was paddle boarding with his wife Camille near their vacation home on the Big Island of Hawaii Saturday morning when he began experiencing chest pains.

According to his rep, the 53-year-old former “Frasier” star is currently “resting comfortably” and is expected to be released from the hospital in a couple of days.

A source close to Grammer says once the star felt sharp pains in his chest area he had someone call 911 and he was immediately taken to an area hospital where doctors determined that he had a mild heart attack.

Grammer’s rep wouldn’t say which hospital the actor is recovering in. Which is interesting (to me anyway) because there’s only one hospital on the side of the island Grammer suffered his heart attack. It also happens to be the same hospital that was severely damaged in a major earthquake that rocked the Big Island less than two years ago.

Grammer’s rep told reporters that he was unaware of any history of heart trouble for the actor.

I feel bad for the guy. Grammer’s most recent TV project (and one of my favorite new shows of the season) “Back To You,” was canceled a few weeks ago after just one season on Fox.

The actor tried hard to get other networks to pick it up, but none of them showed too much interest in doing so. Still, all is not lost for the now recovering sitcom star. A few days ago I heard Grammer is reportedly eyeing a return to primetime TV by starring in the pilot for a new show called “Roman’s Empire.” The comedy, which also stars Nick Thune and Christine Woods could join ABC’s primetime line-up this fall.
