Shawn Hornbeck was kidnapped on October 6, 2002 and held hostage until January 12, 2007 when he was found with another boy who went missing a few days before they were found together. By now we have all heard the story and for once the ending is as good as it possibly could have been for a child who was kidnapped at the age of 11 and held for over four years.
Shawn’s mother and step-father never lost hope and virtually invested every asset they had during their four-year ordeal. This story is repeated far too often in the United States and most loving parents would do the same if their child were kidnapped.
I have written insurance for several companies during my career, but the only one I know offering child kidnapping coverage is Chubb. I’m sure there must be other companies who offer this type of insurance, but with Chubb kidnapping insurance is included with their preferred package policies.
I don’t typically endorse one company over another but as an agent and a consumer I do have my personal favorites. Chubb Insurance is my personal number one company pick for many reasons but one of the top ten has to be their child abduction insurance coverage.
Chubb knows parents don’t ever want to want to think about the possible risk their child may be kidnapped so this coverage is built into the Masterpiece preferred insurance packages. Families who insure their home and auto’s together with Chubb, and qualify for Masterpiece insurance products automatically get this coverage most other companies don’t even offer.
Under the Masterpiece family protection insurance policy kidnapping insurance is included and applies wherever your children may be. Including school, the neighbor’s house, or the other side of the world. No matter where your child goes Chubb Masterpiece Insurance means parents can be sure there is covered. Not only are your children insured but the Masterpiece Family Protection extends to child guests, even for families who have no children of their own.
If a policy holders child, or visiting child is abducted the Masterpiece protection will cover costs such as travel and phone costs. This insurance includes medical, dental and psychiatric costs for children who were victims. Chubb also offers a reward for information leading to the conviction of the perpetrator. The Chubb Masterpiece policy will help with the costs and gives policy holders access to services of The Ackerman Group Inc. An international security firm specializing in crisis mitigation. Chubb offers up to $300,000 for costs resulting from the abduction of a child under 13.
I’m sure there must be other insurance companies that offer kidnapping or child abduction insurance but, so far Chubb is the only one I can find offering this type of insurance as part of their preferred package insurance. Since I no longer make commissions or a red cent selling insurance, I thought I would feel free to endorse my favorite insurance company because–our children matter this much!
