It’s common for children’s bedrooms and playrooms to get messy quickly. The best way to resolve this problem is to consistently straighten and organize these areas in order to avoid allowing them to get out of control.
Most parents have had to deal with this situation at some point. Room cleaning seems to keep getting put off, because we have limited time or simply don’t feel like dealing with the usual complaints or our kids efforts to do everything but actually get the room cleaned up.
When this happens, it can lead to an overwhelming mess. Kids and parents alike may not know where to begin. To avoid letting it get to this point, create a routine wherein the room is quickly straightened on a daily basis, or is given a little more effort every other day (or at least a couple of times each week).
The main points:
Make the Bed
Making the bed will make the entire room look better quickly, especially if it is the focal point of the space.
Deal with Laundry
Pick up all clothing. Put dirty clothes in the hamper or laundry room, and hang up or fold clean clothing. Put it away.
Gather the Toys
Gather up all the toys from around the room. Place them in a box or bin temporarily, until they can be sorted and put into their proper places. Sorting and putting away must be done regularly or it will defeat the whole purpose.
Gather Stuff that Doens’t Belong
Provide another box or bin for collecting things that belong in other areas of the home. Have your child sort and put away these items regularly as well. If your kids are small, you may want to have them do the gathering for this and the above step, and leave sorting and storing to you.
*A consistent effort is the key to neater, more comfortable kids’ rooms.
