Kindergarten Pre-Registration

At the end of this month, my school will hold kindergarten pre-registration. Schools have a kindergarten pre-registration day in order to gain an idea of how many new children will be entering the school. Principals and teachers can look at current numbers in all other grades to determine how many children will be in first grade and up. Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten are the only two grades that have pre-registration in my district.

At kindergarten pre-registration, parents must provide the teachers with some very important pieces of information. Children cannot pre-register for kindergarten without a birth certificate, social security number, physical, and a shot record. Parents will also be asked to complete forms detailing personal information about their child. They will determine who can pick up the child from school and who will be contacted in case of an emergency.

The teachers also supply the parents with important information. Each parent will receive a welcome packet from the kindergarten teachers. They will be given ideas and tips for getting their child ready for kindergarten. Parents will meet the kindergarten teachers and be able to make any special requests for their child.

Although parents pre-register their child at the end of this school year, they will also need to register the child at the beginning of next school year. Pre-registration is not official. It is only to get an idea of how many kindergarten teachers will be needed for the upcoming year. At the beginning of the upcoming school year, parents will need to either come back in or call to confirm the child’s registration.

Kindergarten pre-registration is very important at most schools. If you have a child that will be entering kindergarten in the upcoming school year, call the school and ask for pre-registration details. Most schools require the same types of information. Make sure that you have all documents before you attend. Some parents will stand in line only to discover that they do not have the proper paper work. Call ahead, especially if you have lost your child’s birth certificate or shot record. These documents can sometimes take a couple of days to replace.
