Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Kraft Education Center is one of the greatest children and family destinations around. Affiliated with the Art Institute of Chicago, the entire center is very family friend, providing people of all ages tons of fun with amazing exhibitions, puzzles, games, and a special library dedicated just to children. The best part is that the family programs are free! Just keep in mind that if you take your children to the Kraft Education Center, they do have to be accompanied by an adult.
The various programs are quite remarkable. For instance, you can take a tour of the museum, listening to information about a particular artist, display, or collection. With so many timeframes and artists, there is something for everyone. These gallery talks occur each day at 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Some of the most wonderful exhibitions enjoyed by all include:
-Mini Masters – Clay Pots
-The Artist’s Studio – Scratchboard Pictures
-Family Workshop – African Ceramics
-Drawing in the Galleries – Color
-Stories and Art
-Voices – The Master and the Monkey King
-Highland Park – A Day at an Auction House (complete with mock auction)
While there are many things to see and hear at the Kraft Education Center, the “Touch Gallery” is definitely a favorite for the children. Here, children and adults alike can actually get their hands on various objects, giving them a bird’s eye view of the goods. You know kids – they love to touch so having this opportunity is definitely a highlight.
