This week, “American Idol” runner up Adam Lambert shocked no one (except maybe a few tweens) when he announced in a Rolling Stone magazine interview that he was gay.
Personally, I applaud Adam, Hollywood Life’s Young Hollywood Awards Artist of the Year, for not overshadowing the finale with his announcement and for also not waiting for years to announce the obvious, like former “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken. Adam said he had not regrets about coming clean with his sexuality and was happy with the magazine cover and title (“The Liberation of Adam Lambert”).
If you watched the finale of Idol this year, you know that Adam seemed very close to eventual winner Kris Allen. In fact, on the first part of the finale, Adam pointed to Kris when Ryan was announcing the voting numbers, as if to say “Vote for Kris.” At the finale, when Kris won, he seemed shocked, even going as far to say that Adam deserved it.
Even after Adam’s announcement this week of his sexuality, the two still seem to be good buddies. Adam admitted in the Rolling Stone interview to panicking when he was given “hot” Kris as a roommate. He told the interviewer “He’s the one guy that I find attractive in the whole group on the show…totally my type – except that he has a wife.”
How did Kris, a Christian who is very active in his church and very much married to his lovely high school sweetheart Katy, feel about Adam’s admission of attraction? Kris told PEOPLE that he was flattered and “that it’s hilarious.”
Good thing the bromance continues as these two will be seeing a lot of each other this summer. The “American Idol” 52 date tour, which will also include Matt Giraud, Scott MacIntyre, Megan Joy, Anoop Desai, Michael Sarver, Lil Rounds, Danny Gokey, and Allison Iraheta, kicks off July 5th.
