The Baby Einstein Company is famous for its award-winning children’s media. Another video which fits into this category is their “Language Nursery” video. “Language Nursery” introduces your child to the sounds of six languages in addition to English. With an array of colorful images and soft music in the background, this video will be captivating for your child.
Seven different languages are used in this video, including English. Japanese, Hebrew, French, Spanish, German, and Russian are the other six languages included. “Language Nursery” introduces counting, the alphabet, and some other words that to me were unrecognizable. In fact, sometimes I was not sure exactly what was happening, which brings me to my opinion of this video.
I understand that “Language Nursery” is meant solely to introduce children to the sounds of other languages, but this has to be my least favorite out of all of the Baby Einstein videos. Not only does it not identify each language, but you have to really pay attention to tell what they are saying — such as the alphabet or numbers. How many children under two have that kind of attention capability? The order in which things are presented is not consistent, either. The languages are all over the place, so unless you are familiar with all six foreign languages, you are almost never sure which one they are speaking. The toys that they are showing have absolutely nothing to do with the language being spoken — from what I can tell. I just think that maybe it would have been nice if they showed someone counting out objects when you hear the voices counting, for example.
If you just want to introduce your child to the sounds of other languages, “Language Nursery” is great. Unfortunately, I guess I had greater expectations. If you want your child to get more out of this video than just the sounds, I strongly recommend using the toys, books, and other educational supplements that are available in relation to this video. In fact, the Language Discovery Cards would be a perfect enhancement. With twenty-nine words printed on cards in seven languages, these are a great way to help actually teach your child words in different languages.
“Language Nursery” is recommended for ages one month and older.
“Language Nursery” is available for purchase from The Baby Einstein Company, Amazon, Wal-Mart, and other retailers.
