Sometimes we wait until the last possible moment to consider the type of decorating we might want for a particular holiday. Usually at Christmas time all your regular decorations are up or out and that’s enough. But for Thanksgiving, not everyone has decorations unless you’ve tried some of my great frugal fall decorating tips.
So what do you do when you decide that you’ve wasted all this time and you don’t have any great decorations for that day?
You follow these quick fix tips and breathe a sigh of relief because nobody will know that you waited until the last minute!
* One of my favorite festive tips is to pick up some fabric in a fall or Thanksgiving theme. Wrap your throw pillows and secure in the back with a safety pin(s). From Wal-mart you can get a huge spool of wide ribbon in a coordinating color and tie a bow around it. This adds an instant face lift to your living room where you will probably spend a great deal of time!
* Break out the Christmas Ornaments. I know this sounds strange. But first of all, glass balls look very pretty in a decorative bowl or basket. Arrange with some pine cones and you have a nice fall look. Another favorite idea is if you have those same balls in colors – yellow, red, orange or white. You can put the fall colors into a basket or bowl and you also have a nice decoration.
* If you have any of that ribbon leftover from the pillows, wrap the silverware you plan to use with it in clusters – a knife, fork and spoon for each person. Looks festive on the table.
* Wrap pillar candles, bowls, baskets, tie napkins, etc. with leftover ribbon or purchase some special for the occasion.
* A favorite trick of mine that can be left up even for Christmas is to take pine cones and dip the tops of them in a white latex enamel paint. Allow to dry, and place in a basket or hang them in a window. They look like snow covered trees. The kids love making these and they are really cute. We’ve reused ours several years in a row now. You can also sprinkle some glitter on them while they are drying to make them glisten like real snow.
