Here it is New Year’s Eve and you decide at the last moment to have a few friends over for a get together. But, you didn’t plan well (how could you at the last moment?) and you are wondering what to do. Here are some last moment suggestions for hosting a New Year’s Eve party in your home.
Fortunately, one of great things about New Year’s eve is that unlike other holidays, it doesn’t usually require a huge feast. Instead, a few appetizers will do just fine. If you don’t have the time to make them yourself, pick up some frozen selections at your local grocery store.
One of my favorite appetizers comes from Trader Joes. They have a box of pastry bites with feta cheese and caramelized onions. They seem fancy, but all you have to do is pop them into the oven.
For quick pigs in a blanket, wrap Pillsbury crescent rolls around regular hot dogs and bake in the oven. Then simply slice them into bit size pieces and serve with toothpicks.
If you will be having kids over, make appetizers for them by cutting up apple slices and dipping them in lemon juice (to prevent browning). Another idea is to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and cut them into fancy shapes using small cookie cutters.
For home made confetti, get out a hole punch and some colored paper. Add a bit of sparkle by punching holes in aluminum foil.
Party hats can be made by cutting large circles from card stock or thick paper and stapling them into cones.
For wine, ask your guest to bring a bottle, if you can’t get to the shop.
Enlist the kids to make some paper chains for decorations and/or use some leftover Christmas lights that you string through your centerpiece, chandelier, around the table or close to the ceiling around the room.
I hope these ideas helped. Have a blessed New Years Eve!
