So you would like to sweep your sweetheart into your arms and take him or her on a special trip? (Or hint at being taken!) Here are some ideas, in no particular order:
1. Vegas for Valentine’s – I have always stayed at the Flamingo, right in the heart of the Vegas Strip. The rooms are nice and you can get them now for as low as $60 a night. The hotel is big, but not overwhelming like some of the mega-hotels in the area. The Flamingo has eight restaurants from casual dining to romantic gourmet dining. My niece had her wedding there, and they did a great job. Even if you are not into gambling much, remember Vegas has much more to offer than just slots.
2. If you feel like flying away, Travelocity has teamed up with Air Tran and is offering flights for as low as $34 each direction. That’s quite a bargain!
3. How about a surprise dinner — in Paris! Expedia.com offers a wide range of package deals to Paris. Paris is the ultimate romantic city to visit with your sweetheart!
4. Romantic cruises can be as short as 3 or 4 days, yet will be full of memories to last a lifetime. Los Angeles to Mexico, Florida to the Bahamas, or Western Caribbean cruises are the most popular. Cruise.com has deals from as low as $249. I highly recommend Royal Caribbean Line or Norwegian Cruise Line. Remember, this includes all the food you can eat!
5. If you can’t get away for more than a night, pick a hotel that offers a Valentine’s special, get grandma to baby sit the kids, and rekindle your romance! Omni Hotels across the country are offering a Sparkling Encounter Package. Besides great accommodations, you get a bottle of Moet and Chandon champagne, champagne chocolate truffles, and champagne-scented bubble bath salts, massage oil, and body cream.
Wherever you go, plan ahead. Check with the hotel to see if they have a special romance package or rates. If you are reserving a room for a special occasion, let the staff know and ask for advice as to extra things they can offer. Flowers are always nice, as are lots of candles to set the mood. Think of bringing along a special music CD and a way to play it – or ask the staff if they have a way to play a CD in the room.
Dinner and dancing are always a classic, but use your imagination when it comes to something to do. There might be a leisurely boat ride, special events in the town, or simply ask the hotel’s concierge for suggestions. Even a nice evening walk in a romantic part of town is a great idea.
Take pictures! If there is a professional photographer at dinner, let him take your picture. It will be a memento you will have forever to remind you of your special Valentine’s Getaway.
