When I go visiting teaching, I like to stick to the lesson for the most part. After all, they are the lessons that are inspired that we are supposed to share with the sisters we visit teach. However, sometimes, the lesson doesn’t seem to apply very well to the sister we are visiting, or sometimes, I have a hard time relating. Whatever the case, sometimes, it is nice to do something a little extra or different for your sisters to build relationships with them, or make them feel the love of the Savior. We are supposed to be working in His place.
One thing that always helps are treats. But, try working on finding out what your sisters favorite food is. You can do this by asking her outright, or just trying to discreetly find out during the course of conversation. Either way, next time you visit, you can take her something that you know she will love.
Share your favorite quote. If I run across something during the month that I think is inspiring, I will sometimes share that along with the lesson. I have taken my favorite quote and typed it up on the computer, and put it on some cute paper to give to the sister I visit teach. You could easily add a magnet, or make it into a bookmark for them to hang onto.
Take a gift on her birthday. This does not have to be something fancy or special. You could cook her a meal, or one of my favorite ideas is to put together a bucket of smores supplies. This could include a few marshmallow, graham crackers and chocolate along with a tealight. Attach a note that says something like, “We need S’More people like you”.
Make a CD of your favorite church songs. Encourage your sisters to listen to it in the car or on Sundays…or anytime they need a spiritual uplift. Music soothes the soul and inspires.
