Latest Hollywood Craze: Drumstick Smashing

I’m always amazed by the power behind a drummer. They bang at those drums with every ounce of strength they have, sometimes for hours at a time. It not only produces a cool sound but it looks like a great workout.

Well what do you know? Banging drums has become one of the latest crazes to hit Hollywood. First it was pole dancing, then it was Zumba and now it is drumstick-smashing.

The drumsticks are either wood or weighted and participants in the class will repeatedly hit the ground to fast-paced music such as rock or hip-hop. It works up quite a sweat and is obviously good for the arms.

But it benefits the body overall. Depending on the stance you take, it could also work the body’s core muscles, along with the muscles in your back and abs. And the great thing about incorporating music is that it’s very motivating to keep up with, so people are more likely to work harder at this.

While it has its start in Hollywood, it will soon be spreading out to other locations across the nation. From what I understand, New York is next and then after that, it should reach nationwide by the end of the year.

Of course, I can’t see why anyone couldn’t start this up in their own home. In fact, I Googled weighted drumsticks to see how much they cost and they range in price from $30, all the way up to $90. It might be a worthwhile investment.

Then you put on your favorite music and drum to the beat. This way you get to pick the music you like. But if you are really serious about this, it might be much more fun to take a class. If it’s not available in your area yet, keep your eyes open. I have a feeling this craze will spread fast.
