Today I am going to blog about what is available to view and do in Utah, but outside of Salt Lake City. Utah is a fairly large state, and most of these sites take at least a three or four hour drive, if not more to visit. You would most likely want to find a place to stay nearby. To find more information on all the sites I am talking about please click here.
There are three pageants you can visit in Utah. In June you can go to the Mormon Miracle Pageant in Manti, Utah. Seating for the pageant opens at 6:00 p.m. while the show begins at 9:30 p.m. The Mormon Miracle Pageant runs June 15-17 and 20-24. In August you can attend the Clarkston Pageant which is titled Martin Harris: The Man Who Knew. Pageant dates are August 4-5, 8-12 and 15-18. Shows begin at 8:15 p.m. You do need tickets to attend this pageant, but the tickets are free. Please contact the number listed on the pageant’s site. The third pageant is in Castle Dale, Utah and is called the Castle Valley Pageant. It starts at 8:30 p.m. and it runs August 3-5, and 8-12.
If you are going up to Park City, be sure to visit the Park City Family Trees Visitor Center. There are exhibits there on how to begin your family history. If you are driving down to St George, Utah, a perfect place to stop for lunch or another break is Cove Fort. You can tour the restored Fort and receive free guided tours of the living areas. There are picnic areas and restrooms available.
In St. George there are several sites of interest. You can visit the Jacob Hamblin home, and Brigham Young’s Winter Home. Tours are offered between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the summer. You can also visit the St. George Tabernacle that has been restored to its original design. Tours are available between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the summer. You should also stop by the St. George Utah Temple Visitors’ Center and see the temple. The visitors’ center hours are between 9:00a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
A little off the beaten trail, in Central, Utah, is the Pine Valley Chapel. This chapel was built in the style of an old English chapel, but a shipbuilder designed it. The attic looks like the inside of a ship. Tours are available between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
While you are visiting southern Utah, you really ought to visit Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. They are both beautiful spots to see.
