Welcome to our Week in Review here in LDS. If you weren’t able to join us throughout the week, here is your chance to get caught up at a glance.
We began the week with “Depression vs. Depression,” which talks about the differences in the two definitions of the word “depression” and how we can best support those who are dealing with the effects of the condition. Then we had a book review on “The Master Deceiver,” which talks about the importance of fortifying ourselves against the adversary.
We kept on track with our “Dinner Discussions” for the week, and we continued the Scripture Study series with 1 Nephi 17:1-6. Then we took a closer look at the things parents need to do to help bring their children closer to Christ in “The Parents’ Role.”
“Just Doing the Best We Can” discusses how we all have good days and bad days, and the important thing is to keep chugging along even when we are less than proud of our accomplishments that day. “Visiting Teaching Less Active Sisters” gives us tips on how to reach those sisters who might be struggling with their church attendance.
We learned the theme for Sharing Time this month – “The temple is a blessing for me and my family.” We received our monthly food storage assignment, and we continued the Ten Commandments series with the eighth and ninth commandments. We also were reminded of the importance of listening to our children when they come to us, upset, in “Listening to Our Little Ones.”
The eighth lesson in our Joseph Smith manual was entitled “The Everlasting Priesthood,” and we got ideas for activities that will help teach our young women faith.
Keeping a journal is not only beneficial to you as an emotional release, but to your children and their children as well. “Journal Writing: Start Today” reminds us that it’s never too late to start keeping a journal, and if we don’t have one already, we should begin one now.
We read a summary of President Henry B. Eyring’s address “The True and Living Church,” and got great ideas for a ward field day activity. We are also joined by LDS author and former Families.com blogger Candace Salima, who spoke with us about her nonfiction book, “Forged in the Refiner’s Fire.”
We continued our Senior Missionary Series with “After You Get the Call,” which tells you what you’ll need to do next to prepare to serve. We learn the importance of not trying to take justice into our own hands, but to trust the Lord to make everything right. We also learned the importance of caring for ourselves both physically and spiritually.
“Teaching the Gospel: Realizing the Importance of Your Work” reminds us how crucial our role is as we seek to teach others the things of the Kingdom. “Marriage Can Challenge You to Improve and Change” focuses on the many ways in which we become better people as we learn to overcome differences in marriage.
Have you been called to be a committee member? Learn a little more about this important calling here. You will also read The First Presidency Message, “Safety in Counsel,” which tells us that the leaders of the Church will always have our best interests at heart and we will be safe as we obey.
Our Visiting Teaching message for this month is “The Gospel of Jesus Christ Teaches the Reality of Our Premortal Existence,” and talks about how we knew of our roles before we came here and accepted this life with excitement.
We conclude with “Family Home Evening: Respecting Family Rules.” As we teach our children to follow rules, not only will we have more peace in our homes, but they will be prepared to obey later in life as well.
We hope you enjoyed this summary, and that you’ll be able to join us again soon here in LDS.
