This past weekend I came down with a horrible cold. It peaked on Sunday, of course, making it where I missed my meetings. I was disappointed because I really do love attending church every Sunday. But, I was grateful that I had gone to the Worldwide Leadership Training Broadcast on Saturday. It boosted my spirit, and gave me the spiritual uplift I needed for the upcoming week. If you missed it, or are not currently in a leadership position requiring you to attend, then I strongly encourage you to go watch or listen to it, here.
As always, listening to our church leaders is an experience to strengthen your testimony and give a you a different perspective. Elder Nelson surprised me by talking mostly about family relationships. I thought that this was very interesting in a leadership training meeting. He focused on the relationship between a husband and wife, and how important that is. He spoke of how our homes must become the “primary sanctuary of our faith” and how we must strengthen our homes in this difficult time.
Elders Christofferson and Perry spoke of how all of life’s challenges can be answered by applying the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through service, rescuing, and honoring. One quote that stuck in my mind was when he spoke of honoring, and our temple covenants. He stated that he had once heard a quote that said, “We go to the temple to make covenants, and we go home to keep them”. I loved that. Again, it is our homes that need to be strengthened and edified for the church as a whole to be strengthened and edified.
There was a panel discussion where videos were shared that were touching. They were real life experiences by quorum and auxiliary leaders about things that they have done to strengthen members around them. The one that really touched me was a boy who was called to be a Deacon quorum leader, and he felt a great responsibility for all the boys in his quorum. He spoke of doing a triathlon with a boy in his quorum who was in a wheelchair and how important it was to make him feel included. He pulled this boy, pushed him, and rode with him through the entire triathlon. What an amazing example.
These meetings may seem like a burden to attend to some, but I know that they are meant to inspire the leadership of the church, so we, in turn can inspire others.
