Learning You Are Pregnant Through Intuition

It is not uncommon for women to know they are pregnant well before it is early enough to take a pregnancy test. I’ve known women who have never taken a test beyond their first pregnancies because their intuition was so strong that they just knew they were pregnant. This knowledge often comes before the next period is even due.

Sometimes knowing you are pregnant comes in the form of pregnancy symptoms. This is often either fatigue or nausea. I had one friend who knew she was pregnant if she smelled seafood. It only made her sick during pregnancy and by the third time around, if fish triggered nausea, no pregnancy test was necessary. Food aversions come in many forms, so this is different for each woman. It can also be different in each pregnancy.

Sometimes a food craving signals pregnancy. For me, it is milk. When I start drinking milk by the gallon, I’m pregnant. With our last two babies, I knew I was pregnant the first time one glass of milk wasn’t enough to get through dinner and I wanted a third a little later. The last time, I just looked at my husband and said, “Um, I think I’m pregnant!”

For other women, there are no food aversions, pregnancy symptoms or cravings. There is just a quiet inner knowledge that the baby is growing. It is often completely inexplicable. One day, a woman wakes up and just feels the baby, even though it is months too soon for the baby to be felt.

If you feel pregnant, you can wait it out or go get a pregnancy test to be sure. Today’s pregnancy tests can be done up to several days before the start of your next cycle. This allows you to get the news sooner. Of course, you can just wait it out until the time comes and you miss a period. At this point, you can take a test or call your health care provider to confirm the pregnancy. I always took the test, even when I knew the results. Good luck and congratulations!
