As a new health blogger for Families.com I wanted to take some time to introduce myself. Through the years I’ve been a granddaughter, daughter, two times a wife, sister, and a mother—five times over. At this point, my family consists of only my girls and my sister. Everyone else in my family passed on at a young age, even my first husband.
I feel that facing so many health-related tragedies is what spurred me on to study many health fields, as well as doing my best to take care of my own health and that of my girls. No matter how small my paychecks were, I always found a way to feed us well. I’m also careful to avoid too much sun exposure without sunblock, I take good care of my skin to avoid wrinkles, and I laugh as much as possible.
Viewing life from the lighter side is one of the greatest epiphanies I’ve had in life. If we’re always angry and stressed, all it does is make us old before our time and life isn’t much fun to live. Negativity takes the life out of life.
Whenever someone is in my life I try to learn something. From my grandfather I learned the valuable lesson of humor in the face of adversity. My grandmother taught me to pursue my dreams now rather than tomorrow since tomorrow is promised to no one. I learned from my mother that we need to work on and let go of the past rather than letting it dictate our present and future. With my first husband, the lesson here was that allowing fear to dictate a life merely makes one a prisoner – feel the fear and do it anyway! My great-grandfather was a firm believer in volunteer work – whatever we give out comes back to us.
When it comes to health related subjects, I’ve had education and experience in everything from herbology and aromatherapy, to hand reflexology and NLP. I’m always learning something new and truly feel my brain is a giant sponge soaking up information everywhere that I go.
Over time it’s my goal to share my experiences, knowledge, and new information I’ve learned with everyone here at Families.com. I look forward to many years with you.
