Let Love Bloom on Mother’s Day

If money is tight, but you still want to make May 9th a special day for your mom, wife, or aunt, then consider skipping the expensive fresh flower bouquets and crafting these simple floral projects that will let love bloom without breaking the bank this Mother’s Day:

PHOTO FLOWERS

Materials:

Cardboard

Glue

Scissors

Crayons, markers, paint

Glitter glue, stickers, sequins or other embellishments

Photo of child and mother

Directions:

Have child draw a large flower on a piece of cardboard.

Cut out the flower.

Have child decorate flower with paint, crayon or markers.

Embellish flower with glitter glue, sequins, stickers, etc.

Paste child’s picture in the center of the flower.

Tip: Make enough to give mom an entire bouquet of photo flowers.

PAINTED VASES

Materials:

Clean, empty jar

Acrylic or liquid tempera paints

Paintbrushes or cotton swabs

Craft glue

Clear glaze

Directions:

Mix the paints with some glue. You want to keep the paint thick, so it won’t run.

Use brushes or cotton swabs to paint a design on the jar. Think of a design your mom will like or draw items that she enjoys looking at.

Let the paint dry, then seal the finished design with a coat of glaze.

Insert real flowers or photo flowers in vase before presenting to mom on Mother’s Day.

PHOTO FLOWER POT

Materials:

Construction paper (use mom’s favorite colors)

Glue

Paint

Paint Brush

Pencil

Markers

Photos of Children

Potted Plant

Scissors

Directions:

Paint flowerpot and allow to dry thoroughly.

Draw flowers on the construction paper with large centers. Try to do at least six.

Cut out the flowers and paste photos of children in the center of each flower.

Glue the flowers on the outside of the pot.

Draw stems and leaves with the markers on the pot. You could also write “Happy Mother’s Day,” “I love you Mom!” or “Mom, we bloom under your care and love.”
