The first day of fall will be here soon. In fact, it’s only about a week away. Wow, the summer sure went by fast! Soon it will be time to start getting ready for Halloween or Harvest Parties, and after that, the holidays will be right around the corner!
I love autumn weather and the beautiful scenery. Don’t you love it when the leaves begin to change colors? You can take some really nice pictures of changing leaves and use them in your artwork. The leaves themselves can also be used to make some great craft projects. You can find faux leaves in craft shops and décor shops this time of year and use those for projects too, so your art will last longer.
I’ll be listing some autumn projects and some ideas for Halloween or Harvest Day, including some party ideas and decorations. I plan to go into more detail starting in October, and I’ll have some ideas for simple and last minute costumes, party favors and treats, and more decorations.
After that, we’ll be moving right into Thanksgiving. It will be here before we know it, so make sure you collect lots of pretty leaves. You can use them with your own ideas or for other projects.
The best way to save them is to make sure they are clean, press them flat between two sheets of waxed paper, and place them under a heavy book or other heavy object. You can also smooth just a tiny bit of hair conditioner, hand lotion, or petroleum jelly on them after about a week, if they seem really dry, to keep them from becoming too brittle.
Grasses and different types of “weeds” and wildflowers can also be dried to make attractive arrangements and fall baskets. Make sure an adult helps you choose which items to pick and preserve.
It’s almost fall, so get ready!
