Let’s Hear It for Second Chances

A wise man once said the more second chances you give the more second chances you’ll get.

Kind of makes you wonder whom Britney Spears has lent a hand to recently.

Her goodwill gesture must have been a doozie because the reforming trainwreck is getting a second chance from MTV.

As in the network that broadcast her disastrous “comeback” at last year’s Video Music Awards.

Bigwigs at the music network say they are considering giving Spears a chance to bust a move (or a least a nail or two) on stage at this year’s event.

VMA organizers say they are impressed with the way the meltdown queen has pulled it together in the last few months and want to give her a chance to redeem herself by putting on “the performance of a lifetime.”

Well, it certainly can’t much worse than last year’s.

Flashback to September 2007, Spears was supposedly working with illusionist Criss Angel to create a high-tech, high-energy kick butt performance. But instead of smoke and mirrors, the world saw an out of shape Spears barely giving a lackluster rendition of her single “Gimmie More.” (That is, when she actually remembered the words and knew which way was up.)

Numerous reports say Spears was spotted crying backstage after her performance.

So enter MTV execs who say they are now willing to give the mom of two another stab at a “comeback.”

According to MTV president Van Toffler, “Everyone deserves a second or third chance.”

So far no one from Brit’s camp has commented about MTV’s offer. Though, if Spears does agree to perform at the show she wouldn’t have to travel far. This year the VMAs are moving back to Los Angeles, and will take place at Paramount Studios on September 7th.

What do you think? Should Spears accept MTV’s invitation?
