There are lots of ideas for fun Christmas ornaments that you and your family members can make. Custom Christmas ornaments are great for decorating your tree, decorating different areas of the home, and giving as gifts. They are terrific keepsakes that will bring back memories for years to come, so get started making some right away!
Simple Strings of Beads
This is a super easy idea for ornaments. Form pipe cleaners or “chenille stems” into the shapes you want and then just string some beads onto them. Bend the ends to keep the beads in place. Then, add an ornament hook or a ribbon for hanging. You can shape them into anything you want. Stars and Christmas trees take a bit more effort, but wreaths and candy canes are easy enough for even small children to make.
Extra Easy Angels
You’ll need some lace doilies or pieces of flat lace or you can even use pretty hankies with a lace edge. Place a small Styrofoam ball or some cotton balls in the center (for the head) then gather together and tie with string or ribbon (to make a “neck”). Shape wings and a halo from metallic gold pipe cleaners (a grown up should do the snipping). Glue the halo onto the head and attach the wings at the neck.
Fancy Candy Canes
Pick up an inexpensive box of candy canes, tie each one with pretty ribbons, and hang them on the tree. If you don’t plan to eat them, you can add extra decorations by gluing on beads, sequins, or glitter. Make a pattern or just apply in a random fashion. I prefer to leave them wrapped, but some people choose to use them unwrapped. If you’re going to use them wrapped, make sure you purchase the type where the wrap fits snugly around the shape of the cane so you can hang them. If you get the ones with rectangular wrapping, you will need to add an ornament hook.
