Let’s Talk About Luck

People generally fall into two camps, those who believe in “luck” or chance and those who do not. I am one of those people who do believe that there is such a thing as luck and that we really don’t have much control over it. While I am not someone who believes that everything is random and everything is chance, I do think there are things that are simply out of our control and when it comes to our home businesses—there is only going to be a certain amount that we can influence and some things that we cannot.

We are all born into different families and environments—the world is full of so much diversity and for us to think that we “deserve” to be born in a more affluent society and someone else “deserves” to be born into a war-torn or poverty-stricken one is errored thinking as far as I am concerned. There is a certain amount of chance in how our lives evolve and what sort of resources, talents, skills, and capacity we have. While I am all for working hard and putting in the effort and attitude, I also think that when it comes to business, there is a certain amount of luck and chance involved. Sometimes we just happen to be in the right place at the right time, and other times we may be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Things happen that are completely out of our control.

Now that I have shared that opinion, I want to add that I do not think luck or chance excuses us from trying to do whatever we can to build and benefit our businesses. There are still many things we CAN control. AND, just because we have had some challenging luck, we may just have to work all that harder to make improvements or balance things out. It is still our choice how we respond to those things that happen outside of our realm of control.

What do you think? Do you believe in luck and chance and how big of an impact do you think it has on your home business?
