Did you know that the world’s most expensive toilet is located in China? And, did you know that it has become one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions? More than 750,000 people (some who stand in line for more than two hours) have come to see the $602,000 toilet since it opened nearly two years ago. While it may not be the most luxurious toilet in the world, it is considered the most artistic. The inside of the man-made cave that houses the toilet is decorated like a grotto, with canes hanging on the ceiling, stalactite-like water faucets over the basin and huge stones inlaid in the walls.
Okay, so it is unlikely any of us would spend more for a toilet than we would for an entire house, but there are some other unique “thrones” on the market. Elseware Inc. offers homeowners a unique toilet tank that doubles as a working aquarium. (To see a picture of the aquarium toilet click here.) Actually, the aquarium is separate from the toilet’s water reservoir so you don’t have to worry that each flush will send your collection of finned friends out to sea.
Sick of plunging? You may want to try a high-tech toilet. Kohler’s Champion from American Standard claims it can flush 23 golf balls at once. (Now, that’s what I call a power flush.) If you are looking for a more stylish commode you may want to consider purchasing Kohler’s “Hatbox” toilet, which brings high fashion to the bathroom. The unique streamline design does away with the tank. Instead, it uses an electric pump to handle flushing duties. I think it looks like a diaper pail… a very expensive diaper pail—the “Hatbox” will set you back about $3000. (To see a picture of the “Hatbox” click here.)
Finally, if you are looking for the perfect centerpiece for your space-age themed bathroom, consider opting for the NeoRest toilet. It’s futurist design senses when a visitor is approaching and lifts its lid to accommodate a prospective user. Might come in handy in the middle of the night.
