Born on June 22, 1949, in Los Angeles, California, Lindsay Jean Ball’s parents divorced when she was seven years of age. As a teenager, she lived in Portland, Oregon, and attended David Douglas High School. She began to study dance (ballet and jazz) at the age of thirteen, and when her mentor suggested that she study acting, she promptly followed through on the advice. She became a model first however, and although successful, grew to hate it. Her acting career began in the 1970s with guest appearances on television shows such as “Night Gallery” (1970) and “Marcus Welby, MD” (1969).
She also starred in the critically acclaimed television series, “Paper Chase” (1973), but her major breakthrough came a year later with her guest appearance opposite Lee Majors on the hit series, “The Six Million Dollar Man.” Her performance was so well received that in 1976 she was offered her own show, “The Bionic Woman.” Her talent, beauty and popularity won her an Emmy Award for this role, and from then on she has starred in thirty made-for-television movies and miniseries. She has also been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and a Cable Ace Award.
Lindsay Wagner is the niece of actress, Linda Gray, and has been married four times. She has two sons from her second marriage to stuntman, Henry Kingi, from whom she has been divorced since 1984. She is a practicing vegan and is the author of “The High Road to Health: A Vegetarian Cookbook.” She is also the spokesperson for the Sleep Number beds.
Perhaps her most harrowing experience occurred on May 25, 1979, when she was scheduled as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 191 from Chicago to Los Angeles. For some reason, she felt uneasy and skipped the flight, only to discover that the plane crashed minutes after take-off, killing everyone on board.
Her lovely face continues to appear here and there, but generally in not enough places to please her many, many fans.
