When we were growing up, we had the coolest bathroom in town. It’s funny the silly things we remember, isn’t it? The bathroom was blue, with a large fishnet hung on the wall. We lived at the beach, so it was probably real. My mom hung starfish, floats, and these shiny iridescent glass balls in the net. Long before Ariel and Under the Sea, I can remember making waves in the tub (yep, there was a time I was small enough to scoot from one end to the other) and pretending to be in the ocean.
I’m such a geek that I did my kids’ bathroom in a similar way. It’s a tiled enclosure, so the fishnet is a lot smaller. I had to use a lighter duty one because the cost of the real one is prohibitive. But it’s definitely a blast from my past, a fond memory I wanted to share with them.
The bath had a nice clear plastic shower curtain on it, complete with a great mural of fish in various sizes and colors. My special little guy was terrified of it so we’ve had just the liner up. It’s not very attractive. Hooray for Linen ‘n Things’ clearance! Their shower curtains are heavy-duty cloth and they hang very nicely. I ordered the green one (hey, seaweed is green! Besides, they had no blue). It will be much prettier in the bath than the “baby-barf tan” liner.
The Nautica curtain is $9.99 (down from $19.99). Use code 151100000008 to get 20% off that, and free shipping. The code expires 3/18/07. Again, if you’re new to Google checkout, you can sign up and get $10 off – which would make it free.
It’s the little things in life that make the house a home. What was your bathroom like growing up?
