I have always stressed the importance of reading in my house. I would encourage it at every opportunity. Story time was a big deal. Every day we would take time out to do this. It was loved by all in my house. In the evening there was also story time. It was a daily ritual and because of that, I believe, I had good readers around me. Not only did my house have good readers, but imaginations ran wild here. It was a good thing. There were stories created by the people among me that I have saved and treasured throughout the years.
Because of this I have a great collection of books that I do not think I could ever part with. Those are the kind of things that you have to save and hand down to the next generation of readers. One collection of books that I have fond memories of is the “Little Critters” books. Little Critter lived in Critterville, of course. He lived with his family and was the topic of many adventures.
“Happy Easter, Little Critter” was one of the books that I remember placing in the Easter basket underneath the cellophane wrapping. I remember tucking it in behind the big chocolate Easter bunny. It was a welcomed gift on Easter morning to a 3-year-old.
I do not know how many “Little Critter” books Mercer Mayer, the author, created, but each and everyone had us smiling.
If you have not had the pleasure of reading a “Little Critter” book you are missing something. Instill the love of reading in your child and pick one up or check one out at your local library. I am quite sure that your child will be asking for more of these adorable books. These books are perfect for the 3 to 7 year old child and their parents as well.
