Look Who’s Headed Back to School

Your little Johnny is not the only one headed back to class this fall.

Imagine being a student at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles and bumping into actor Jerry O’Connell. Your first thought might be that he’s at the school’s orientation because he’s researching a future film role.

Wrong.

The 35-year-old Hollywood hottie has gone back to school… for real.

According to reports, O’Connell is enrolled as a part-time student and started night classes earlier this week.

O’Connell, who has been playing Mr. Mom to 8-month-old twin daughters while his actress wife Rebecca Romijn works, revealed that while he has been out of school for awhile, he is “very excited and enthusiastic” about his studies.

O’Connell says he decided to enroll in law school because “It was either [law school] or play video games until 2 a.m.”

I’m guessing O’Connell must be relieved of daddy duty sometime after dinner if he’s got that much time on his hands.

Regardless, the “Sliders” star will not be the only celebrity hitting the books this fall.

Following stints as a sitcom dad, talk show host and Broadway star, Tony Danza is going back to school… to teach.

And yes, there’s a catch.

The “Who’s the Boss” star’s stint as an educator at Philadelphia’s Northeast High School will be documented for a reality TV show called “Teach.” The show is slated to air on the cable channel A&E this fall.

“I’m so scared. You have no idea,” Danza revealed to reporters on Thursday. “I can tap-dance, but I don’t know if I can make kids learn yet.”

Not exactly what you want to hear if your kid is enrolled in Danza’s 10th-grade English class.

What’s more not everyone is thrilled by the former “Taxi” star’s new venture. Philadelphia Daily News columnist Ronnie Polaneczky recently called the show a way “to pimp our kids’ education to an unemployed sitcom actor who wants to kick-start his stalled career on the backs of students who’ll be distracted by cameras and microphones.”

For the record, Danza has yet to secure approval to teach. School officials say they will vote next week on a resolution that would allow at least 13 episodes of “Teach” to be shot. The district would get $3,500 per episode, plus expenses, and the right to object to footage.

As for the 60-year-old actor, he says while he has no prior teaching experience, he did make it through 16 years of school as a student. Danza graduated from a suburban New York high school in 1968 and received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Dubuque in Iowa in 1972.
