Look Who’s Performing at Tomorrow’s Super Bowl

It’s the NFL’s biggest game and some media experts say it could attract one of the largest TV audiences in history.

I’m talking about the major match up between the undefeated New England Patriots and the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

If you plan to tune into the big game tomorrow (some only watch to see the commercials) you’ll hopefully witness a worthwhile battle on the field, but if nothing else you’ll be treated to some great entertainment.

Less than 3 months after releasing her debut album, the youngest “American Idol” winner ever, Jordin Sparks, will be performing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Interestingly, her father used to play for the New York Giants. (Phillippi Sparks spent nine years as a pro cornerback and played for the Giants for one season.)

The fact that the Giants made it to the Super Bowl the same year Sparks was asked to sing the national anthem was not lost on either father or daughter.

“I said, ‘Dad, I’m singing at the Super Bowl,'” the 18-year-old singing sensation told reporters Thursday. “He said, ‘At least one of us made it.'”

In addition to Sparks, who considers herself a “huge, humongous football fan,” nine-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys will also be performing on game day. Keys is scheduled to provide the pregame entertainment, though she admits that she isn’t that much of a football fan.

Meanwhile, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will be headlining the halftime show.

And while the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer admits that performing during the Super Bowl is a career highlight, he recently told news reporters that he is not looking forward to compressing his band’s work into a tight 12-minute set that includes moving 56 carts on and off the field.

Personally, I’m glad Petty is performing tomorrow… at least with him singing we won’t have to worry about any wardrobe malfunctions.
