Yee-haw! George Clooney is heading to the Wild West.
According to reports, the hunky actor has reportedly signed on to star in “The Lone Ranger.”
Britain’s The Sun is reporting that the Oscar winner will join Johnny Depp in the big screen adaptation of the long-running 1950s TV show.
A source close to the project says Clooney has wanted to share screen time with Depp for a while now and thinks they’ll make the perfect on-screen partners.
Personally, I don’t see how Depp is going to find time to see his family with the insane schedule he is about to start. In addition to playing Tonto in the big-screen adaptation of “The Lone Ranger,” the 45-year-old actor just signed on to star in two new high-profile Disney projects and has also agreed to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. (Incidentally, the screenplay for “The Lone Ranger” will be penned by “Pirates of the Caribbean” writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio.)
Variety is also reporting that Depp will be teaming up again with director Tim Burton (the two worked together on “Sweeney Todd”) when he stars as the Mad Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland.”
Finally, there’s a good reason you won’t be seeing the real Erin Brockovich returning to the big screen any time soon.
According to New York papers, the legal crusader and environmental activist portrayed by Julia Roberts in the Oscar-winning film “Erin Brockovich” is now working for a Manhattan personal injury law firm that specializes in asbestos cases.
Brockovich reportedly signed a consulting contract with Weitz & Luxenberg and will be involved in soliciting cases and investigating claims, according to the New York Post.
Not surprisingly the 48-year-old media veteran has already filmed two TV commercials for the law firm. In the ad Brockovich makes a plea to individuals who may have contracted lung cancer from exposure to asbestos to contact her new firm.
