This is a big year for several celebrities – the big 50. You might be surprised to see who is turning 50 this year:
Madonna
Yes, it’s true – the Material Girl just turned 50 on August 16th, amid reports that her marriage was over due to an affair with Yankee Alex Rodriguez. However, 2008 was also a good year for Madonna, as she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March.
Grandmaster Flash
In 2007, this pioneering hip hop musician and DJ, along with the Furious Five, was the first hip hop/rap artist to be inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw the Jet magazine cover that said that Prince, listed as #28 on the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, turned 50 this June. He beat Madonna to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by four years.
Yes, the newlywed talk show host turned 50 in January of this year.
Ice-T
In his fifty years, Ice-T has transformed from gangsta rapper to Law & Order regular.
Mary Chapin Carpenter
This country music star has won five Grammys. She is also the only one to have won Best Female Country Vocal Performance four years in a row.

The eldest son of actress Grace Kelly and ruler of Monaco turned 50 on March 14.

Bart Conner
Bart won Olympic gold in 1984 for the parallel bars and as part of the men’s gymnastic team. In 1996, Bart married fellow gold medalist Nadia Comaneci.
Alec Baldwin
Alec, riding high as Jack Donaghy on “30 Rock,” turned 50 on April 3.
