Looking at the Stars

A few blogs ago I started an extension of my evidence series dealing with ways you can show your kids evidence for the existence of God. I think that looking at nature and the universe is a great way to show the existence of God to your children. First of all, most children are completely intrigued by things in nature and the universe. Secondly, the world we live in is God’s beautiful creation. From the intricate details of a flower petal to the grand mountain ranges to beautiful sunsets, God can be seen all around us.

In the previous blog over evidence to share with your children, I wrote about showing your children the design involved in the different bugs in your area. Today I want to encourage you to show your children evidence for the existence of God by observing the night sky. Growing up in Texas I had many opportunities to view the night sky without any light pollution around. The sky is amazing! If you have never been out of a city at night, and I mean truly out of the city, it is something you definitely need to experience. The stars and planets are so beautiful and marvelous.

Take you children out at night, far away from the city. Show your children the innumerable stars that God so perfectly placed in the sky. Tell them what you know about the solar system, and stars, and explain that we only know a little about what is out there in the universe. Point out the different constellations in sky. You can easily find out information about constellations through a quick internet search. Let your children ask as many questions as they can. You will not be able to answer them all, but use it as an opportunity to tell them that God put the stars in the sky. This is a great opportunity to remind your children that God created the sun, moon, and stars on the fourth day of creation. Finally, emphasize the fact that the universe was created by God, that it did NOT occur by accident.
