Many of us have found our Prince (or Princess) Charming, but many are still looking for that elusive someone. There are times when it seems our options are limited: we can go to bars, we can hang out at the grocery store, we can accept blind dates, but waiting for fate to work her magic can seem pointless, hopeless, and way too hard.
I recently learned about a great convention for singles headed up by Alisa Goodwin Snell, a licensed marriage and family therapist, dating coach, and author of books for singles. She says, “Singles always say that they love my dating advice, but they don’t know where to meet other singles.” She hit on the idea of creating a conference where singles can meet and enjoy each others’ company. “I wanted to combine dating advice with a dinner and speed-dating event in the hope that it would help singles make the connections they really want to make while at the event.”
Alisa’s convention takes place in Salt Lake City on November 19th at the Salt Palace. You can get more information here.
What an awesome idea – but what about those who don’t live in the area? Are there other venues closer to home?
As a matter of fact, there are. A quick Google search showed me all kinds of events held for singles all over the country. Here are some parameters you might want to keep in mind as you search:
1. Are you looking for an event with classes and seminars, or are you looking for a huge mix ‘n mingle event?
2. What are you looking for – someone to date, or someone to marry?
3. What aspects of a relationship are most important to you – similarity in religious beliefs, open communication, financial openness?
As you look through the available events, you will see that some of them are geared more toward one area of interest than another. Think about what’s most important to you, and you will be able to find a get-together or a conference that meets your individual needs.
